Iraq owes 14 trillion IQD to the KRG Ministry of Peshmerga

19.03.2014 – Hoshmand Sadiq – BasNews, Erbil – An Iraqi MP has announced that the Iraqi Government owes 14 trillion IQD ($12 billion) to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for arms and military equipment.

The funds were promised to the KRG Ministry of Peshmerga eight years ago and are yet to be delivered. MP Najiba Najib, from the Kurdistan Coalition List, told BasNews that, “according to the Iraqi Constitution, the federal government must deliver all military necessities to the KRG Peshmerga Ministry.” The Iraqi MP explained that during a meeting of Kurdish representatives in the Iraqi Parliament with Kurdistan President Masoud Barzani earlier this week, it was agreed that the federal government must arrange for the provision of the overdue funds in the 2014 Iraqi budget.
