Iran Encourages Syrian Government and PKK to Stand Against Turkey: Wikileaks / Damascus has asked the PKK for closer cooperation, Wikileaks reveals

Basnews | herman xalid – 20.06.2015 – Saudi accuses PKK of supporting Iran and Syria against Turkey – RIYADH – The Intelligence Agency of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has sent a letter to senior officials, stating that Syrian regime supporters will encourage Bashar al-Assad to ally with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and stand against Turkey if they believe the Damascus regime to be in danger. According to recently released Wikileaks documents, the Iranian government and other allies of the Syrian Regime will support al-Assad and the PKK to fight against Turkey if they feel the Syrian regime is nearing its end. The documents also reveal that Saudi Arabia intelligence agencies are concerned about attempts to combine the Assad regime and the Lebanese Hezbollah to launch attacks on Israel. “Because of the strategic relationships, the Iranian government and its allies won’t give up on Bashar al-Assad.”

The documents also reveal that the Syrian regime has asked the PKK for closer cooperation against the Turkish government “if the Turkish proposal to separate the northern part of Syria succeeds.” As part of over 500,000 classified documents from Saudi Arabia intelligence agencies, Wikileaks released about 70,000 documents on Friday June 19th. The documents discuss the current crisis in the region and Saudi Arabia’s strategy.
