FSA Provides Protection to UN Team as it Completes Investigation in Eastern Ghouta
Media Statement – Syrian Coalition – Istanbul, Turkey – August 29, 2013 : The Syrian Coalition urges the UN chemical weapons investigation team to exert all efforts to continue to establish the truth about chemical weapons use in Eastern Ghouta.
The international community realizes that Assad is solely responsible for the crime of using chemical weapons in Syria. Furthermore, the Assad has caused destruction, death, and chaos time and time again in Syria throughout the past two and a half years. On Wednesday, the UN team concluded its second day of investigation in eastern Gouta, and visited locations where Assad forces deployed chemical weapons. Members of the team took samples and pictures, and interviewed witnesses and victims of the attacks.
The UN team concluded its visit under the protection of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) which accompanied the team and facilitated its work throughout the visit. The FSA fulfilled its pledge to provide protection and ensure the safety of members of the UN team.
The Syrian Coalition stresses once again the importance of having the team complete its mission in a transparent and impartial manner. We ask for mercy for our martyrs, health for our wounded, and freedom for our detainees.
Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
