Emir of Qatar calls for Arab-led intervention in Syria

Shiekh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, while addressing the UN General Assembly called for an Arab-led intervention in Syria, due to the failure of the UN Security council and out of the Arab’s national, humanitarian, political and military duties and that Arabs should do what is necessary to stop the bloodshed in order to guarantee a peaceful transition of power in Syria.

The rebel Ansar al-Islam group in collaboration with Ahfad al-Rasoul battalion bombed a school building occupied by security forces and pro-government militias in Damascus near the Palestine security branch, using improvised IED’s targeting weekly planning meetings between Shabbiha militia and security officers, the explosions left scores of officers and militiamen dead including a Major general and two Colonels.

In Deir Azzour, at least 22 civilians died in the neighbourhood of Qosour in the city of Deir Azzour as regime fighter jets carried out strikes on residential buildings while at least 12 more were killed “execution style” as regime forces raided the neighbourhood of Joura. Some more civilians were also killed as regime forces fiercely shelled the neighbourhoods of Jbaila, Kanamat, Mowathafin, Baajin and the provincial town of Boukamal.

In Damascus, regime warplanes carried out aerial attacks on a number of towns and villages in the suburbs killing at least 12 civilian in the provincial town of Douma. Meanwhile, regime forces summarily executed dozens of civilians as they raided the Damascus suburbs of Sbeneh, Yalda, Bowayda, Sayeda Zeinab and the neighbourhoods of Jobar and Qadam in southern Damascus. They also shelled the Damascus suburbs of Thiyabiya, Moadamiya, Erbin and Zabadani resulting in scores of deaths and injuries, while resumed bulldozing and demolishing residential buildings in the neighbourhoods of Zohour and Qabun.

Activists said that at least 11 civilians from Aleppo were killed as they were trying to flee the violence in their city on the Homs-Tartus road when regime forces opened fire on their vehicle. Scores of civilians were also killed in Aleppo as regime forces resumed pounding the neighbourhoods of Bustan Basha, Sakhour, Karm Jabal, Qadi Askar, Masaken Hanano, Naqarin and al-Faid as well as the Aleppo suburbs of al-bab, Tal Refaat, Kafarkarmin, Kafar Halab, Qabtan Jabal and Kafarnourna.

Israel said that mortar shells landed in the occupied lands of Golan heights as heavy fighting broke out between regime forces and rebel fighters in the southern villages of Hamidiya and Hurriya in province of Qunaitera. Meanwhile, regime forces executed six civilians in the southern province of Suweida, according to activists.

Regime forces also continued their massive military offensive throughout the country, killing dozens of civilians, wounding hundreds others and forcing thousands of them to flee their homes. They fiercely shelled the neighbourhoods of Jobar, Sultaniya, Naqira in the city of Homs as well as its provincial towns of Talkalakh, Talbiseh and Rastan. They shelled the Hama suburbs of Khatamlo, Rasim Abed and Soha and the Daraa suburbs of Dael, Sheikh Maskin, Ma’arbeh, Mzereib and Khirbet Ghazaleh. Theyu also resumed pounding the Salma resort in Latakia suburb as well as the Idlib suburbs of Sarmin, Jaberiya and the villages of Jabal Azzawiya district. Regime forces carried out sweeps, arbitrary arrests and arson in the Daraa suburbs of Herak, Sanamen and Harra as well as in the neighbourhood of Arbaeen in Hama city.
