Kurdish party in Turkey calls on Rouhani to stop executions
09.05.2014 – BasNews, Turkey – The pro-Kurdish People’s Democracy Party (HDP) in Turkey has sent an open letter to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, calling him to stop the execution of activists by his government.
In the letter, HDP criticizes Rouhani’s recent polices, saying that the rate of executions of activists has increased under his presidency. “Since August 2013, when you become Iranian President, tens of political and religious activists have been executed. This has posed a big danger,” read the letter. HDP also accuses Iranian authorities of executing people who speak out against the government by arresting them on trumped up charges. In the letter the president is asked to call a stop to this practice immediately. In recent years, Iran has executed hundreds of political activists, including numerous Kurds. Amnesty International claims that Iran ranks second in the world, after China, for the number of people executed by the government.
