Destiny of Political Prisoners Held by PYD in Rojava Unknown – There are children among the prisoners

Basnews English – 03/04/2017 – 20:15 – ERBIL — The members of the Syrian Kurdish National Council (ENKS) detained by the ruling Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) are still held in prisons.Saeed Omar, a leader from Kurdistan Democratic Party of Syria (KDP-S) which is a party within ENKS, told BasNews the political inmates of ENKS are still in PYD prisons in Rojava, with their destiny remaining unclear.
He noted that there are children under 18 among the prisoners and their families have been threatened with exile to Kurdistan Region if their sons refuse to abandon ENKS and decide to continue with the political activities.The ENKS official stated that they have prepared a list which includes personal details of all the prisoners and they will submit it to the UN and other international organizations.
PYD, an extension of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), continues to crack down on political opposition parties in Rojava under the ENKS umbrella, and has so far detained many political activists with closing down all the headquarters of the opposition parties. PYD stepped up its crackdown on rivals in Rojava after a military clash between the PKK-affiliated forces and Roj Peshmerga broke out last month near Sinjar, north of Iraq. www.mesop.de
