CLAUDIA ROTH (GREEN PARTY GERMANY) MEETS MASSUD BARZANI IN SALAHADDIN

30/03/2013  – MESOP – Salahaddin, Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRP.org) – President Masoud Barzani Thursday met with Claudia Roth, the co-chair of Germany’s Green Party and an accompanying delegation which also included Rolf Ulrich, Germany’s consul general in Erbil.

The meeting between the President and Claudia Roth focused on bilateral relations, developments in Turkey, the Syrian crisis, and the ongoing challenges facing the political process in Iraq.

On Turkey, President Barzani expressed his hope that the recently-initiated peace process in Turkey can succeed and reiterated Kurdistan Region’s full support for this process. He said the Kurdistan Region is ready to contribute in any way possible to ensure this peace process succeeds. For her part, Ms. Roth paid tribute to the positive role played by President Barzani in helping to bring about this peace process by saying that without his role, this peace process would have never gotten underway.

On the Syrian crisis, the President stated that what happens in Syria will have a direct effect on Iraq and on the Kurdistan Region. So far, over 100,000 Syrians have sought refuge in the Kurdistan Region and the number of refugees is increasing on a daily basis, he added.
