Barzani: ‘we will not wait for a vague destiny in Iraq’

August 3, 2014 – ARA News – Latakia, Syria – President of Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Massoud Barzani, reiterated on Saturday the Kurdish right to self-determination in the region, because he “could no longer do anything for Iraq, and will not wait for an unknown future”.

This came in a statement issued by the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region during Barzani’s visit to the sites of Kurdish Peshmerga forces in the areas of Jalawla, Saadia and Karmiyan, pointing out that the “Peshmerga mission is great and historical through sacrificing their lives for the people to enjoy safety and security”.“Kurdistan survival is linked to the Peshmerga’s existence,” Barzani said.

Barzani emphasized in the statement that the Peshmerga forces will be provided with sophisticated equipment and weapons. “We must be ready for all scenarios.”

President Barzani also pointed out that some Baghdad-linked politicians are talking about the Peshmerga’s control of these regions, inquiring “what would have been the fate of these areas without the Peshmerga intervention and who would have controlled them now?”.“Following the fall of the regime (Saddam Hussein’s in 2003), we have made continuous efforts and we tried a lot to build a democratic and united Iraq,” Barzani sais, adding: “We can no longer do anything after we did our best for Iraq. We cannot wait for a vague destiny.” President of the Kurdistan Region, Massud Barzani, renewed his assertion of “working on two tracks, the first is to help the political process in Iraq, and at the same time we are working towards reaching the right of self-determination for the people of Kurdistan”. http://aranews.net/2014/08/barzani-will-wait-vague-destiny-iraq/
