Arab League opposes to Kurdistan Region’s independence

23-7-2014 – Kurdpress – Arab League sectary general political deputy said the Iraqi northern region of Kurdistan does not have the right to declare independence from Baghdad.

According to AIN Fadhel Muhammad told a press conference that the region does not have the right to split from Iraq now since Arab League is against the division and will not accept such demands. He further added discussion over independence has been limited the region officials’ media remarks. The Arab League official’s remarks comes weeks after Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani asked the enclave’s parliament to make a plan to hold a referendum in the region to ask people if they want to remain a part of Iraq or want independence.
