Anti-Maliki front to be formed in Erbil
21-5-2014 – Kurdpress – A member of the Kurdistani Alliance, main body of the Kurds in Iraqi Parliament, stated a front is due to be formed in Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan Region, in order to stop Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to take power for the third time in row.
Speaking with Burasa news agency, Hamid Bafi said the fron is composed of Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani, al-Watanya Coalition Chief Iyad Allawi, and a member of the Iraqi Islamic Supreme Council Adel Abdulmahdi and al-Ahrar and Mutahedoon Coalitions are expected to join them.
If the latter coalitions join the front, a very strong opposition to Maliki’s third term will be formed soon, he added. The official, however, said the US and Iran welcome Maliki’s reelection as PM after he won a large number of vote in April 30 parliament polls. Prior to the polls, Maliki sent letters to all Iraqi lines and groups and asked them to accompany his ruling State of Law Coalition to form a majority government. Maliki oppositions accuse him of marginalizing minorities and monopolizing power in Baghdad.
