PYD Holding Rivals in “Poor Condition” in Prison: Amnesty Int.

Basnews English – 15/06/2017 –  ERBIL — The Amnesty International on Tuesday warned against the “poor condition” of three Syrian Kurdish opposition activists held by the ruling Democratic Union Party (PYD) in the Syrian Kurdistan, better known as Rojava.

In a statement on its Arabic website, the Amnesty International says that the PYD-affiliated security forces are holding Mohsin Taher, Amin Hossam and Bashar Amin behind the bars in Alaya prison in Qamishlo city.

Being held in “poor conditions”, the three have not been brought any charges by the PYD yet, the organisation said. Taher and Hossam were detained on 9th of May and Amin was brought under detention less than two weeks later this year. The PYD is facing fierce criticisms for showing no tolerance in the face of its rival parties and activities and declining to allow them to participate in the political process in the Kurdish region of northern Syria.
