January 01 2017 – By Scott Lucas – eaworldview – UPDATE 1315 GMT: The Iranian regime has continued its reception of the Syrian Foreign Minister with the declaration that Tehran will maintain “strategic ties” with the Assad regime.

Ali Akbar Velayati, the Supreme Leader’s top advisor, offered the remarks in his meeting with Walid al-Moallem, celebrating the reoccupation of all of Aleppo city by pro-Assad forces: “Aleppo’s liberation is a major victory, and Syria’s friends and enemies acknowledge it.” –   Velayati tried to define next month’s proposed talks in Kazakhstan between the Assad regime and the Syrian opposition, saying that only rebels who “are willing to lay down their weapons and stop terrorist acts and accept to be a part of the great Syrian nation” can attend.He said those rebels must “respect Syria’s territorial integrity and legitimate sovereignty”.  Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=81620

 

MESOP UPDATE “THE NON-CEASFIRE” : Assad Regime Exploits “Ceasefire” to Attack Near Damascus

January 01 – 2017 – By Scott Lucas – eaworldview – UPDATE 1245 GMT: According to a pro-Assad activist, a representative of Russia’s Hmeimem military operations centre has said the siege and assault on the Wadi Barada pocket, northwest of Damascus, does not violate the ceasefire because rebels in the area are affiliated with the jihadists of Jabhat Fatah al-Sham.

If true, the report fulfils the prediction that Russia’s tactics — in line with a possible deception over the ceasefire agreement — are to provide space for the ongoing attacks on Wadi Barada through the pretext that JFS is a target because it is excluded from the truce. 1 Jan 2017 – MESOP  – The opposition and rebels claimed that the ongoing pro-Assad attacks were enabled by a deliberate deception by the Assad regime key’s ally Russia and Turkey, which has been a leading backer of the rebellion.

Rebel factions noted that they had signed a version of the truce agreement which excluded only the Islamic State. But they said that the Assad regime had accepted a version with several key changes, notably the exclusion of both ISIS and the jihadist faction of Jabhat Fatah al-Sham. MESOP NEWS SHORT CUTS : US sends 70 trucks of arms for  PKK/PYD controlled Syrian Democratic Forces

Syrian media claimed that the U.S. has sent some 70 trucks full of arms and ammunition for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).  According to local sources the arms have been sent to Syrian Kurdistan through with trucks for the SDF, 24 News reported.  The arms were sent through Qamishli by local forces to western Derbise under heavy security. The U.S. has sent the arms to the forces in order to support them in the upcoming operation to liberate Raqqa, the so-called capital of the Islamic State (IS). www.mesop.de

The Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) will participate in the formation of the new government on condition they agree to lay down arms and support Syrian territorial integrity, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Friday.

ANKARA (Sputnik) — Ankara considers the PYD and its armed wing, the YPG, to be affiliated with the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK), which has been designated a terrorist group by Turkey as well as the United States. “The Syria’s Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) will not take part in the talks on Syrian settlement in Astana. As for its armed wing, the YPG, if they lay down arms and support the territorial integrity of Syria instead of forming a terrorist canton, they will be included in the country’s government. The unseen documents displayed and translated below were obtained in the north Aleppo countryside from a refugee who is originally from the Tel Afar area and had resided in Mosul. Since the launching of the military campaign by Iraqi forces whose main goal is to retake Mosul, thousands of Iraqi Sunni Turkmen from the Tel Afar area have fled to the north Aleppo countryside, partly in fear of the primarily Shi’a Popular Mobilization (Hashd Sha’abi) units that are leading the drive to retake Tel Afar. The Hashd Sha’abi focus on Tel Afar is hardly surprising given that many Iraqi Shi’a Turkmen previously resided in Tel Afar and are eager to reclaim their homes taken from them by the Islamic State in its conquests of the summer of 2014.  Full text  http://www.mesop.de/?p=81607

Bislang konnte Assad darauf zählen, Iran und Russland gegeneinander auszuspielen, wenn es darum ging, Feuerpausen oder Verhandlungen zu hintertreiben. Dem syrischen Präsidenten dürfte die neue Konstellation auch mit Erdogan  Unbehagen bereiten.

Eingliederung in das Schattenreich der Revolutionsgarden

Syrien ist für das iranische Regime von deutlich größerer strategischer Bedeutung als für Putin. Iran hat viel Geld investiert und einen hohen Blutzoll entrichtet. Hier wird der Machtkampf mit Saudi-Arabien maßgeblich entschieden. Syrien grenzt an den Erzfeind Israel. Es soll fest eingegliedert werden in den schiitischen Machtblock, das Schattenreich der Revolutionsgarden, die dafür einen religiös aufgeladenen Feldzug in der ganzen Region führen. Und nicht nur die panschiitische Fremdenlegion ist ein Mittel dazu. Während Russland die Institutionen und regulären Streitkräfte stärken will, stellt Teheran Milizen auf, die zu einem loyalen Staat im Staat werden können. Iran arbeitet auch daran, die Bevölkerungsstruktur in strategisch wichtigen Regionen zu verändern. Dabei geht es etwa um den Korridor, über den Teheran die Hizbullah im Libanon mit Waffen versorgt. Sunniten werden vertrieben, Iraner erwerben über Mittelsmänner Grundstücke in der Hauptstadt. Die jüngste Finanzspritze für Damaskus war gekoppelt an Grundbesitz als Sicherheit. Berlin Journal 30 Dec 2016 – Polizei durfte Nordafrikaner nicht „Nordafrikaner“ nennen – Die Polizei durfte die Bürger nicht vor „meist nordafrikanischen“ jungen Männern warnen, die Taschendiebstahl begehen.

Auf Druck der Antidiskriminierungsstelle des Bundes durfte die Polizei in Nordrhein-Westfalen im vergangenen Sommer Nordafrikaner nicht Nordafrikaner nennen. Eine Warnung vor „meist nordafrikanischen“ jungen Männern musste die Polizei wieder zurücknehmen. Dies geht aus einem Schriftwechsel zwischen der Behörde und dem Dortmunder Polizeipräsidium hervor.
