MESOP NEWS INSIDER : Turkey, Russia Promise Cooperation Over Ambassador Assassination
20 Dec 2016 – Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Turkey and Russia would work together (AP) to investigate the assassination of Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov by an off-duty Turkish police officer. Cavusoglu called the shooting a “heinous terror attack” in comments made during a visit with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, which was previously scheduled for a discussion of the Syrian crisis. The U.S. embassy in Ankara was closed (Al Jazeera) Tuesday after a separate gunman fired shots outside the entrance hours after the assassination.
