ERBIL — Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) forces, stationed on Mount Qandil and the surrounding villages in northern Kurdistan Region, have recently raided a house of a 70-year-old man in a nearby village and tortured him on charges of sheltering a fleeing PKK child soldier.

The local resident named Mahmoud Ahmed Hama who is also the headman of Sarkan village has been detained and tortured along with his family by the PKK guerrillas stationed in the area. PKK accused the man with sheltering a child who escaped from the organization.

Isa Taha, the mayor of Qasre district, told BasNews that “after a teenager escaped the military school of PKK and took refuge in Sarkan village headman’s house, 7 PKK guerrillas raided his house and detained him along with his wife, accusing them of sheltering the fleeing boy.”PKK guerrillas severely tortured the detained locals, and after two days of detention they were freed by the efforts of the officials and figures of the area, he said.

Jabar Wusu, an official of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Qasre district, said that the headman is a KDP member, for this reason, PKK has plotted the incident against him by sending a child to his house, adding that PKK is maltreating the KDP members in the areas under its control and preventing them from wearing Peshmerga uniform. Local residents of the mountainous areas in northern Kurdistan Region have repeatedly called for PKK’s withdrawal from their areas since it has been constantly attracting Turkish air strikes which have resulted in the death of civilians and damage of public services. www.mesop.de
