Ocalan: the process most go forward

ISTANBUL 10.06.2014 – Firat News – PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan told a visiting HDP delegation yesterday that: “I am continuing to concentrate in a determined way in order for the new phase to be implemented. I reiterate the call I made at our last meeting to both sides to avoid situations that may damage the process or create the grounds for a provocation, and expect them to respect the state of non-conflict in a meaningful way.”

The HDP delegation of MPs İdris Baluken, Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder gave details of their meeting with Mr Öcalan. They said:

“Firstly Mr Öcalan expressed his sorrow at the deaths of Ramazan Baran and Baki Akdemir in the attack in Lice and offered condolences to their families, the people of Lice and all our people.” He said: “I hope these are the last people to die in our struggle for democracy and freedom. I am continuing to concentrate in a determined way in order for the new phase to be implemented. I reiterate the call I made at our last meeting to both sides to avoid situations that may damage the process or create the grounds for a provocation, and expect them to respect the state of non-conflict in a meaningful way. Recent incidents are putting strain on the process and creating difficulties. We all have to demonstrate a determined commitment to peace in order to overcome these problems. I said that the stage we have reached is a hopeful beginning. Today I observe that this hope is beginning to evolve into concrete work towards a solution. We are at a historic juncture. I believe we will succeed. In order to succeed there is no doubt that the talks we have here should be carried out in a transparent legal manner of which public opinion should be informed. If this happens then it will be clear to everyone that the process serves a democratic resolution and democratisation of the whole country and not speculation. I want to issue an important warning: we do not behave hurtfully towards any national values or symbols of any country. It is essential that both sides carry out an urgent investigation into this latest flag provocation that aimed to turn the people of Turkey against us, and share the conclusions with everyone. People should be aware that such provocations target the democratic nation analysis, the goal of which is a common future for peoples. On this basis I greet all those who are making efforts for a lasting peace and a democratic solution.
