MESOP NEWS – CONTRA KURDISH UNITY – PKK Constitutes Barrier to Reconstruction of Sinjar: Official  – PKK forces have occupied a number of public buildings and set up checkpoints

Basnews English  – 15/12/2016 – 18:53  – SINJAR — An official from Sinjar district stated that Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) forces are constituting barriers to the movement of people in some areas where they exist in Sinjar. Waheed Bakozi, an official from Sinjar, told BasNews on Thursday that the areas where the PKK forces are deployed in Sinjar are unlikely to be reconstructed due to the security barriers they have built in those areas. The official warned about the future of the district if the current situation lingers.

PKK is posing danger to the area as they neither recognize the official administration of the district nor allow the reconstruction of the area, said the official, noting that they have occupied a number of public administration buildings and set up checkpoints. Despite frequent calls for their withdrawal by the officials and people of Sinjar, PKK refuses to vacate the area and has created intense fear among the population of the town since they are recruiting their children. For the same reason, the IDPs are unwilling to return to their areas.Previously in October, a source from the Iraqi Ministry of Defense revealed that Baghdad is continuing to pay the salaries of the PKK guerrillas who are providing military training to the Sinjar Resistance Units (YBŞ), a PKK affiliated armed group. www.mesop.de
