New Massacre in Homs Claims 220 Lives / Demonstrations of Kurds in Afrin
Assad’s forces killed at least 220 and injured 550 in the neighbourhood of Khaldiya in Homs as it continuously shelled its residential areas with tanks, heavy artillery, and missiles. Demonstrations downtown Damascus in Kafarsouseh and Mazzeh were faced with heavy gunfire. Syrian refugees in Turkey went out on massive demonstrations in response to the massacres in Homs.

On the first ever commemoration of the 1982 Hama massacre, Assad’s forces killed at least 220 and injured 550 in the neighbourhood of Khaldiya in Homs as it continuously shelled its residential areas with tanks, heavy artillery, and missiles situated at the Homs Castle. Many houses were burnt and many families were buried under the rubble. Assad’s forces raided the Amal hospital where at least 100 injured were present and executed most of them. The Qosur neighbourhood was not so different, as regime forces shelled it and raided its residential areas. While in Rastan, clashes continued for the eighth day.
In the capital Damascus, security forces laid siege to the neighbourhood of Hajar Aswad and clashed with defected soldiers. At the same time, demonstrations in the areas of Nahar Aisha, Barzeh, Kafar susa, and Mazze were faced with heavy gunfire. In the suburbs of Damascus, the fourth regiment started randomly shelling and bombarding Zabadani and Madaya from all corners, which cause many fires. Furthermore, Daraya was invaded and more than 50 of its residents were arrested arbitrary.
The situation was not so different in Jabal Zawiya in Idlib and in Tal Shehab in Daraa, as Assad loyalists clashed with the revolutionaries amidst heavy shelling. The massacres today led the refugees in the Turkish camps of Hatay to rise up in solidarity with Homs, as the masses broke the gates they were locked in and went in massive demonstrations.
